Tilbake i Tanzania
Day 9. Solomon Islands – Australia
The last leg over to Australia was the shortest of all our sectors crossing the Pacific. As I mentioned earlier our plan was to fly from Majuro and all the way to Cairns, but this didn’t work out because of our technical delay and the weather forcing us to divert. In the end we wereContinue reading “Day 9. Solomon Islands – Australia”
Day 8. Marshall Islands – Solomon Islands
We got up at 4:20am as usual to make it to the airport by 5:00am for a 6:00am departure. Getting up early enough has been quite easy as we have moved two time zones westward after every flight. Weather was fine in Majuro but the cyclones north and south of Solomon Islands caused some strongContinue reading “Day 8. Marshall Islands – Solomon Islands”
Day 7. Resting and repairing the HF
I must have been quite tired from yesterday’s flight from Hawaii, cause I slept like a rock until 6:30. Woke up to the sound of the Pacific waves outside my window. Just beautiful. After breakfast we headed over to the airport to try to fix my HF. Our mechanics in Mareeba suggested we take aContinue reading “Day 7. Resting and repairing the HF”
Day 6. Hawaii – Marshall Islands
There have been some weather systems in south-western Pacific that we have monitored the last few days. One cyclone east of Australia might give us a little too strong headwinds for our last leg to Cairns. A SIGMET (Significant Weather) report of embedded thunderstorms existed for Marshall islands, and Majuro was right on the edgeContinue reading “Day 6. Hawaii – Marshall Islands”
Day 5. Resting in Hawaii
Not much to report from this day. We had a late breakfast at the hotel. The locals were wearing sweaters and complained about how cold it was. It got better as the sun got higher on the sky, but I always imagined Hawaii to be quite warm. I assume the other hotel guests imagined thatContinue reading “Day 5. Resting in Hawaii”
Day 4. California – Hawaii
We got up at 4:20am local time, checked the weather right away and were happy to see that winds and weather forecasts were the same as the evening before. Our hotel was right next to the aircraft parking so we literally just walked out the door and over to our planes. As we did ourContinue reading “Day 4. California – Hawaii”
Day 3. Waiting for calmer winds.
Yesterday we decided to delay our departure for Hawaii due to strong winds outside the west coast of the US. Today we have been monitoring the winds and the weather forecasts and the winds should improve enough by tomorrow morning, allowing us to depart at about 6am local time. As of now the winds andContinue reading “Day 3. Waiting for calmer winds.”
